The show goes on

IT is 135 years since the first show was held in Lismore, and it continues to bring people together.

The North Coast National Agricultural and Industrial Society Inc. brought early settlers together to share farming knowledge and showcase their achievements.

Only 1400 people lived in Lismore in 1885. While much has changed, agriculture remains an important part of the region’s economy.

The Northern Rivers agriculture show season begins this month with the Nimbin Show from September 21 -22.

The Nimbin Country Show began in 1919 and it continues to exhibit horses, cattle, poultry, dog trials, arts, crafts, fruits, vegetables and horticulture.

There will be community workshops in Sustainability Alley and plenty of children’s activities including Saturday’s guinea pig pet show, and on Sunday, the children’s pet show, novice whip cracking, and reptile awareness displays of Australia.

The Jacko Kevan’s Memorial Talent Quest seeks out the best talent.

A week later is the Kyogle Show on September 27-28, followed by the Casino Show on October 11-12.

The Lismore Show is on from October 17-19.

It will have crowd favourites such as horse and cattle events, produce displays, the woodchop, and fireworks. Ashton Circus, Monster Trucks, FMX bikes are also back, with a music stage and, for the first time, Pop Zone brings CosPlay to the show.

The Alstonville Show runs from October 25 -26, Murwillumbah Show is on November 1-2, and Mullumbimby Show is on November 8-10.

Bangalow Show rounds out the show season on the Northern Rivers from November 15-16.
