Windmill Trust Scholarship for regional artists
THE Windmill Trust Scholarship is open to regional NSW artists for grants of up to $10,000.
Individuals or groups can apply for funding to assist with the cost of exhibiting work, professional development or independent artistic research or practice for work from September onwards.
Applicants must be a regional resident of NSW for at least five years and be practitioners undertaking the project.
Since its inception in 1997, the Windmill Trust Scholarship has provided over $160,000 to support the artistic practices and professional development of regional artists.
Lismore-based Wiradjuri artist Karla Dickens used the 2024 grant to mount the exhibition of her installation, Rise and Fall, at Wollongong Art Gallery.
The multidisciplinary artist interrogates aspects of the nation’s history, providing provocative reflections on Australian culture as well as exploring religion, race, sexuality, the environment and motherhood.
A National Arts School graduate, the Goonellabah resident has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, with her works represented in significant public collections.
Rise and Fall responded to the climate catastrophe and devastating floods of February 2022 through sculpture, photography, and video, reimagining mermaid mythologies with a post-apocalyptic twist.
The trust supports artists in various career stages and aspects, including professional development, exhibiting and presenting work in new ways.
Eligible costs include studio rental, materials, labour, framing, space rental, promotion, artist fees, freight, installation, and documentation.
Regional Arts NSW is hosting a free online Q&A workshop for applicants to ask questions about eligibility, application, and budget and receive grant writing support on June 30 at 4 pm.
Scholarship applications close at midnight on Monday, July 7.
