SEVENTEEN-year-old Wollongbar actor Vincent Miller is preparing for a major profile boost following the release of the film Inside, in which he stars alongside Guy Pearce.

Miller, who attended Alstonville High School and St John’s College Woodlawn, plays a young man who is taken under the wing of two hardened criminals after being transferred from juvenile to adult prison in the movie.

The third prisoner is played by Cosmo Jarvis, from the critically acclaimed Japanese language series Shōgun.

Miller also appeared in the ABC TV series Plum, about a retired rugby league player played by Brendan Cowell who is diagnosed with a brain disorder following years of concussions he suffered on the field.

Miller said he loved movies as a child and always watched the behind-the-scenes features.

He began doing drama classes at Wollongbar Hall when he was ten years old and landed the lead role in the BANG! Academy of Performing Arts production of Nit Boy at Byron Theatre in 2019.

He also had a small part alongside Luke Hemsworth in Bosch & Rockit, which was filmed in Byron Bay, but his scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.

But through the process he got an agent and an acting coach and began auditioning for more roles.

As Inside features some unsettling moments, writer Charles Williams came to talk to the then 15-year-old’s parents before offering him the part.

“My parents thought I was mature enough to be able to do it,” he said.

Miller planned to see the movie with a group of family and friends when it opened at Palace Cinemas Byron Bay on February 27.

He has also been named among the finalists in the AACTA Young Stars National Youth Casting Call, the recipient of which will fly to Los Angeles to meet with an international casting director and take part in a week-long workshop at the American Arts Film TV Academy.
