Record turnout for Darrel Chapman Fun Run

MORE than 1,000 competitors pulled on their running shoes to support the charity Our Kids on Sunday.

The Darrel Chapman Fun Run has been a fixture on Lismore’s calendar for 30 years, and this year’s event had the biggest turnout so far.

 

 

Sponsored by NAB, it attracted keen runners, walkers and families, who competed in the Lismore Masters 21km half marathon, the Lord’s Taverners 10km or the Terania Consulting 4km walk/run.

Tony Johnstone was the first competitor across the line in the 10km run in a blistering 36.50 minutes.

 

 

Joshua Gillett finished the 21km run in 1 hour and 13.50 minutes.

The event wasn’t all about the competition, though.

The 4km run brought out hundreds of participants, many donning colorful tutus, adding a light-hearted spirit to the day.

 

 

Among the youngest competitors, Alex Hills was the first junior to complete the half marathon, while Declan Cooper was the first junior home in the 10km run.

For the teens, Thomas Menger and Rue Heffernan were the first to cross the line in the 10km.

 

 

In the Silver Sneakers categories, Ian McInnes and Heather Zeckler claimed victory in the half marathon, while Graeme Pollard and Christine Jackson were the fastest in the 10km run.

Funds raised from the event will go towards purchasing breast milk warmers for the Special Care Nursery and Children’s Ward in Lismore, as well as a humidicrib.
