Teven Valley Golf Course earns national spotlight
TEVEN Valley Golf Course has gained national recognition after being featured on the sports program How Good is Golf.
TV host Paul Gow teamed up with course designer and golfing legend Craig Parry, who acted as his caddy to guide him through the course’s quirks.
Parry, who redesigned the nine-hole course in 2017, was commissioned by owner Curt Zuber.
With help from course superintendent Paul Gumbleton and Bob Simmons, Parry brought his extensive expertise to make the course unique.
The broader golfing community has recognised the course’s quality, with Teven becoming the first and only nine-hole course included in the Golf Australia Top 100 – 2023 Public Access Courses guide.
Set in the Ballina hinterland, the course features McGuires Creek running through it, home to platypus, turtles, and fish. Gow praised its charm, saying, “Oh my goodness, what a little gem. That last green is something special.”
The course has also attracted other big names, hosting the NSW Open regional qualifying series in August—a first for a nine-hole course.
Teven Valley Golf Course general manager James King said the TV spotlight highlighted how special the club is to a wider audience.
“It’s just a very unique golfing experience.
It’s a world-class facility that the shire has at their back door,” King said.
While the club is small, exposure to the TV show’s annual audience of 1.3 million golf enthusiasts on Foxtel and Kayo may bring new visitors to Teven.
