World-class stunts at Lismore Show with Aussie FMX
MOTOCROSS world record holder Brodie Carmichael will return to the Lismore Show this week, bringing his Aussie FMX team to showcase high-flying stunts and crowd-pleasing tricks.
Carmichael, who first saw stunt bikes perform at the show when he was 14, said that experience sparked his passion for freestyle motocross and led to his career competing in events like the Nitro World Games FMX World Championships.
“I grew up in Drake and going to shows,” he said.
“I saw a stunt bike rider perform at Lismore Show before I knew about freestyle motocross.
“It definitely helped inspire me to get into motocross. It showed me how you could perform live shows.”
The Nitro World Games competitor is now a seasoned performer and owner of Aussie FMX.
“I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to ride full-time. I love to ride and I get to choose where I go,” he said.
Carmichael’s team at the Lismore Show will include Australia’s whip king champion, Tyler Wakeford.
“He’s the best rider in the country and in the top three in the world,” Carmichael said.
“The quality of riders in the show is world-class.”
Promising action-packed entertainment, Carmichael said fans can expect thrilling tricks.
“A crowd favourite is the backflip, but we’ll be bringing even more tricks. It will be very exciting,” he said.
Carmichael describes the tricks as “flipping upside down, hanging off the bike, doing some tricks, then landing safely”.
While he makes it sound easy, a lot of preparation goes into putting on a show week after week and not getting injured.
“Last year we had a crazy schedule. I had lots of overseas trips and maybe four weekends off,” Carmichael said.
“We focus on bike maintenance and practice. We train every week to allow us to do what we do.”
Aussie FMX riders will also hold meet-and-greet sessions after each lunchtime show, giving fans a chance to meet the team and grab a poster.
Catch the Aussie FMX riders and monster trucks every day at the show, which wraps up on Saturday night.
