TWEED residents are invited to provide feedback on an upgrade to the Crabbes Creek Community Hall. Improvements aim to make the venue flood-resilient and welcoming for people of all abilities.<\/p>\n

The $538,560 upgrade is part of a $15.5 million funding package from state and federal governments to restore and enhance community assets affected by storms or floods.<\/p>\n

After suffering severe flood damage in 2022, the hall will undergo renovations using flood-resistant materials and design elements to minimise the impact of future flood events.<\/p>\n

Tweed Shire manager of inclusive and creative communities Shannon Carruth emphasised the upgrade was not just about physical changes but about ensuring the hall is a safer, more inviting, and inclusive space for all residents and visitors.<\/p>\n

“The flood damage significantly impacted both its internal and external features,” Ms Carruth said.<\/p>\n

“To ensure the hall can welcome all members of the community regardless of their ability, the refurbishment will include accessible toilet amenities, car park and safe, linking pathways, also offer essential amenities for visitors of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail.<\/p>\n

“After the upgrade, the hall will be a more secure and welcoming venue for gatherings, events and activities that bring our community together for years to come,” she said.<\/p>\n

The draft plan also includes new water tanks, unisex accessible public toilets, additional facilities for the hall’s use, and a bike rack. A new awning is planned for stage two.<\/p>\n

Community members are invited to learn more and discuss the upgrades with Tweed Shire staff at the Crabbes Creek Community Hall on July 25, from 4.30pm to 6 pm.<\/p>\n
