THE schedule for Paris 2024’s surfing events in Teahupo’o, Tahiti has been confirmed.<\/p>\n
The competitions will take place over four days within a 10-day window from July 27 to August 5.<\/p>\n
As excitement builds for the second-ever Olympics to feature surfing, Surfing Australia has launched a new documentary highlighting the Olympic surfing team’s extraordinary journey.<\/p>\n
The documentary, available online via the Nine Network, follows Australia’s Olympic Surfing team, “The Irukandjis,” as they prepare to compete on the notoriously dangerous Tahitian wave, Teahupo’o.<\/p>\n
Two-time world champion Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum, Ethan Ewing, and Tweed Heads’ Jack Robinson will all make their Olympic debuts in Paris.<\/p>\n
Surfing Australia chief executive Chris Mater described the new documentary as thrilling.<\/p>\n
“This new documentary “Come to the Edge” will give viewers front row seats to the most terrifying wave on the planet with exclusive access to the world’s best athletes as they prepare for what will arguably be the best Olympics ever,” Mr Mater said.<\/p>\n
“We can’t wait to showcase this new Olympic venue to audiences that may be tuning in to surfing for the very first time.”<\/p>\n
The four-member team secured provisional qualification for the Paris Summer Games by finishing in the World Surf League (WSL) top five end-of-season rankings in 2023.<\/p>\n
Their spots were confirmed by participating in the 2024 World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
Australia’s Olympic team Chef de Mission Anna Meares praised the team’s achievements.<\/p>\n
“Tyler, Molly, Jack and Ethan have already shown they are among the best surfers in the world and I know Aussie fans are going to be cheering them on,” Ms Meares said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
