AN AUSTRALIAN company is disrupting the hearing aid clinic industry by supplying ready-to-use aids directly to the buyer.<\/p>\n

One in six Australians have hearing loss, but only one in five who need a hearing aid use one. The majority delay treatment for their hearing loss for more than five years.<\/p>\n

Hearing specialists Don Hudson and Suzanne Porter, founders of PocketAid, used the hearing test results of more than 1,000 people to design their broad prescription, ready-to-use hearing aids.<\/p>\n

Mr Hudson said patients could achieve exceptional hearing outcomes.<\/p>\n

“It’s possible without the traditional process of visiting a clinic, waiting weeks to be fitted with hearing aids, and the need for constant follow-up adjustment appointments,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Customers can visit our website and, using the audiology insights provided, look for the product that best suits their needs.<\/p>\n

“We are aiming to improve accessibility for the majority of people who suffer from hearing loss and reduce the stigma associated with hearing aids.”<\/p>\n

Research by the American Journal of Audiology in 2022 concluded there was “no significant difference for overall hearing aid outcomes” when comparing clinic-prescribed hearing aids to over-the-counter devices.<\/p>\n

Terranora resident Doug Robinson had tried three different clinics and two hearing aids before finding PocketAid.<\/p>\n

“I found hearing clinics stressful, and there was always a push to buy their hearing aids, and there was not a lot of detail on hearing loss,”\u00a0Mr Robinson said.<\/p>\n

“I always felt they were more interested in the sale more than the patient. I never felt confident with the advice; the quotes were prohibitively high.<\/p>\n

“I had a free trial but only used them occasionally as they were difficult to use and connected to my phone and laptop, which was quite a process<\/p>\n

In contrast, Mr Robinson said the PocketAid experience had been a breeze.<\/p>\n

“It arrived in the post with clear instructions. They were easy to adjust, and I immediately noticed a difference in my hearing, and even more noticeable after a few weeks.<\/p>\n
