THE MURWILLUMBAH Tennis Club held its annual club championships tournament in August with a complete program in fine spring weather.<\/p>\n

Of the 67 registered players, Irene Dorrough won the Women’s Singles, and Javier Serrano took out the Men’s Singles. Xavier Hawkey and Irene Dorrough were the Mixed Doubles winners, Jacob Guinea and Hawkey won the Men’s Doubles, and Dorrough and Anna Scanes took home the Women’s Doubles honours.<\/p>\n

Murwillumbah Tennis Club president Manmohan Janda said the day had been a successful one for the club.<\/p>\n

“We had a fabulous tournament for the club championship.<\/p>\n

“All players were in a positive vibe. One of the most exciting parts was to see our ‘not so young’ players showing incredible fitness and stamina.”<\/p>\n

Harisen Rainford-Markarian, who has been a member since 2016 and has served as club tournament director and club maintenance officer since 2023, is in his second year as tournament director.<\/p>\n

Rainford-Markarian said playing tennis was a vast and nuanced personal experience.<\/p>\n

“If it weren’t for this club, I would have never played tennis.<\/p>\n

“It has made me a better person. Tennis is very important to a lot of people who live in Murwillumbah. What is so beautiful about it is grandparents literally play with their grand kids. It’s a game that almost everyone can play.<\/p>\n

“I play with my whole family. My mother, father, uncle, sisters, and brothers all play tennis. If it weren’t for the club providing us somewhere public to play in Murwillumbah, none of this would be possible.<\/p>\n
