{"id":102122,"date":"2024-10-03T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=102122"},"modified":"2024-10-02T19:11:36","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T09:11:36","slug":"inaugural-head-race-at-murwillumbah-rowing-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/sport\/inaugural-head-race-at-murwillumbah-rowing-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Head Race at Murwillumbah Rowing Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MURWILLUMBAH Rowing Club (MRC) will hold its inaugural Head Race on Saturday, October 19, featuring crews from across the Northern Rivers and Southeast Queensland in all boat classes in two divisions.<\/p>\n<p>The race allows single sculls, doubles, quads and eights and is open to juniors, open age groups and masters rowers, with masters&#8217; crews being handicapped according to age. Starting east of the Condong Boat Ramp, the five-kilometre race will finish at the club.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Robert Gee said it had been a long time between races for the club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will be our first long-distance event held since 2019, and we are hoping to attract a number of clubs from Northern NSW and Southern Queensland to attend,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We know that crews are keen to return to the Tweed to experience the great water and, for some, a change of scene from the Brisbane River.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Crews in NSW and QLD are currently preparing for Melbourne&#8217;s Head of the Yarra marathon.<\/p>\n<p>Distance time trial events, such as the MRC Head Race, are among a number run under the Rowing Queensland umbrella from August to October.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Tweed race provides a great opportunity for crews to prepare for the Melbourne event,&#8221; Gee said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our event is also being supported by Tweed Shire Council, which is of great help to us as we work to re-establish rowing events and help to bring more sporting events to the area.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Murwillumbah Rowing Club Head will be held on Saturday, October 19, starting at 8am and includes a sausage sizzle and raffles.
