FAMILIES will feast on wood-fired chicken and enjoy nature-based treasure hunts and flower pressing workshops at the Frida’s Field Spring Gathering on November 3.<\/p>\n

It is the second year Jeanie Wylie and Edward Rawlings will host the community event at their Nashua property, with the 300 available tickets selling out within two weeks last year.<\/p>\n

Families are being invited to bring a picnic rug to set up on the lawn or mingle with others at communal-style picnic tables.<\/p>\n

Frida’s Field chef Alastair Waddell will cook up chicken on a wood oven to serve on rolls, alongside roast potatoes and salad, with falafel rolls as a vegetarian option.<\/p>\n

The crew from Common People Brewing Co. in Bangalow will serve craft beer, while Wal Foster from Bush Icecreamery will be offering sweet treats.<\/p>\n

Wise Earth Bush School will host a nature treasure hunt, while Big Scrub Nature Play will also conduct nature-based workshops.<\/p>\n

Japanese artist Hideo Aoyama will also facilitate two pressed flower workshops.<\/p>\n

At last year’s event, attendees planted 800 rainforest trees with the help of Richmond Valley Landcare and Big Scrub Regeneration.<\/p>\n

“I thought it would be lovely to get everyone back to see how much the trees have grown in a year,” Wylie said.<\/p>\n

“They’re almost as tall as I am now.<\/p>\n

“It’s pretty amazing to see how quickly they grow.”<\/p>\n

Wylie and Rawlings, who are passionate foodies, bought the 48.5-hectare farm in 2015 and quickly set about regenerating it.<\/p>\n

They hosted the first long lunch on the property in 2020 and had planned to do one pop up a month, but it was so popular they ended up offering three lunches a week in their architecturally-designed barn.<\/p>\n

“We change the menu every six weeks based on what’s growing in our quarter acre market garden on site and what’s available at Byron Farmers Market,” Wylie said.<\/p>\n
