{"id":102157,"date":"2024-10-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-06T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=102157"},"modified":"2024-10-02T20:39:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T10:39:55","slug":"wonka-musical-makes-audience-melt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/wonka-musical-makes-audience-melt\/","title":{"rendered":"Wonka musical makes audience melt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FROM dancing lollies to Blues fans and social media influencers \u2013 Bangalow Public School students embraced an array of characters for their recent Wonka musical production at the neighbouring A&amp;I Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Creative and performing arts teacher Jenevieve Beves said students who helped write the script put a modern spin on the classic Roald Dahl tale of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was written more than 50 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I try to pick a timeless story that has universal themes and speaks across the generations, then they come up with ways to modernise the characters and the things that they might say and do,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/10\/StudentsfromBangalow_55223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students from Bangalow Public School performing in the Wonka musical, which featured an array of characters.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To make it more relevant to them they decided that Charlie would be a kid obsessed with football who was really disappointed he wasn&#8217;t going to the State of Origin; instead he had to go to a chocolate factory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the original version Veruca was a spoiled brat \u2013 in this one her dad was an e-commerce entrepreneur and she was an influencer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really fun; I couldn&#8217;t imagine the things that they come up with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/10\/Studentsperformingth_57594.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"438\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bangalow Public School students dressed as lollies in the Wonka musical. Photos: KRISTIE VAUGHAN ART<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every student at the school played a role in the musical \u2013 whether it was kindergarten kids performing choreographed dance routines with their class or older students as part of the backstage crew.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It think that it&#8217;s really important that it&#8217;s a really inclusive production,&#8221; Miss Beves said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Doing a school musical can be challenging when kids don&#8217;t have a buy-in.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/10\/Astudentperformingin_61072.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"791\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students from Bangalow Public School incorporated current affairs into the Wonka musical.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Year 5 and 6 students who helped write the script had speaking parts if they wanted them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were two classes that had to dress as confectionery, and they came up with all sorts of different things.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was so cool to see them up on stage in their creations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/10\/BangalowPublicSchool_63544.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bangalow Public School students in Wonka.
