FINGAL Head Coastcare will host a guided tour of the treasured Fingal\/Buninybah region at 8.30 am on Saturday, November 16, offering insights into its history and restoration efforts.<\/p>\n

Participants will learn about the area’s significance, history, and the ongoing work to care for and restore it.<\/p>\n

The tour includes knowledgeable guides’ introductions to the nursery, remnant rainforest, and headland areas, as well as morning tea and lunch with the volunteers.<\/p>\n

Fingal Head Coastcare Inc. has been restoring flora and fauna habitats since 1986. The volunteer group’s work includes caring for the littoral rainforest, coastal woodlands, wetlands, and dunal vegetation destroyed by sand mining in the 1950s and 1960s.<\/p>\n

The community group has won over 80 local, state and national awards since 1990 for its important work.<\/p>\n

Interested residents are welcome to join the tour, meet the regular volunteers, and learn more about becoming involved in Fingal Head Coastcare or one of the other Tweed Landcare Inc (TLI) groups.<\/p>\n

The Tweed has a rich array of flora and fauna, with more species of fish, birds, amphibians and mammals than Kakadu. The region has many threatened fauna species and Australia’s highest concentration of threatened plants.<\/p>\n

TLI supports people who care for the environment and natural resources of the Tweed and provides information, training, project coordination, advocacy, and representation for members, local groups, landholders, and the community.<\/p>\n

Participants should note that the Fingal tour track is somewhat rough with sandy ground, but part of some sites are wheelchair accessible.<\/p>\n

Parking is available but limited. Organisers are asking participants to carpool if possible and to bring their lunch.<\/p>\n

The Fingal Head Coast Care Nursery site is located on Lighthouse Parade, Fingal Head.<\/p>\n
