{"id":102914,"date":"2024-11-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-10T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=102914"},"modified":"2024-11-06T18:53:14","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T07:53:14","slug":"lighting-up-the-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/lighting-up-the-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Lighting up the night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KINGSCLIFF&#8217;S beloved fig tree on the roundabout at the intersection of Marine Parade and Seaview<\/p>\n<p>Street has been officially relit by representatives of Tweed Shire Council, local businesses and community groups.<\/p>\n<p>The new light installation was unveiled in a ceremonial &#8216;relighting&#8217; coinciding with the conclusion of October Business Month.<\/p>\n<p>Tweed Shire mayor Chris Cherry said the new feature was part of a broader Council initiative to beautify and activate key precincts across the Tweed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fig tree is an iconic part of Kingscliff&#8217;s identity, and it&#8217;s fantastic to see it illuminated in such a striking way,&#8221; Cr Cherry said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This project not only enhances the atmosphere of the town but is also a shining example of what we can achieve when the Council, local businesses and the community work together.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/11\/tree3_32555.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The vibrant new feature is part of a broader initiative to beautify and activate key precincts across the Tweed, with similar projects in the planning for Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah and Pottsville. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are working on similar projects with the Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads business chambers and the Pottsville Community Association to uplift and beautify key precincts in their towns, and I can&#8217;t wait to see what we can achieve there too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Council&#8217;s Destination, Events and Business and the Parks and Active Communities teams worked alongside Business Kingscliff and the Kingscliff Ratepayers Association on the $20,000 initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Ratepayers association president Peter Newton said the tree was a much-loved feature of the village.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The return of the lights is so welcomed by our community,&#8221; Mr Newton said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/11\/tree1_32668.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Business Kingscliff President and Tweed Shire Cr James Owen, Mayor Chris Cherry and Kingscliff Ratepayers Association President Peter Newton.
