TWEED Shire Council has developed a growth management and housing strategy options paper to address the shire’s growing population and resulting housing and employment ramifications.<\/p>\n

More than 1200 residents across four information sessions, nine drop-in opportunities and two online sessions across the Tweed contributed to extensive community consultation.<\/p>\n

Shire planning and regulation director Denise Galle said the Tweed required a diverse range of housing to meet the evolving needs of a growing and ageing population.<\/p>\n

“We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to provide constructive feedback to our team on how they would like to see the Tweed develop into the future,” Ms Galle said.<\/p>\n

“We are committed to listening to this valuable feedback and look forward to transforming it into a draft strategy early next year.<\/p>\n

“More than 635 submissions were received, highlighting the community’s enthusiasm and interest in this area.<\/p>\n

“The process has provided invaluable insights into the housing needs and preferences of our residents.<\/p>\n

The community engagement is among the most extensive undertaken in the Tweed and included a range of conversations at local markets, shopping centres and stakeholder presentations.<\/p>\n

Information was also shared through local media outlets, social media, targeted newsletters, and face-to-face presentations with local business groups, advisory committees, development industry stakeholders, ratepayer groups and community forums.<\/p>\n

Ms Galle said she was confident that when the strategy was developed, it would meet the needs of the Tweed in the future.<\/p>\n

“The aim will be to ensure sustainable growth and enhanced liveability for all residents over the next 20 years while creating employment opportunities close to home,” she said.<\/p>\n

After it is adopted, the final paper will form the basis for the draft strategy, which will be open for further community feedback in 2025.<\/p>\n
