STATE and federal governments have approved $52.5 million in additional disaster recovery funding to repair Byron Shire roads damaged by the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
The funding, distributed across eight packages from $506,000 to $15.89 million, supplements the $160 million allocated earlier this year.<\/p>\n
It will support critical repairs on roads including Coolamon Scenic Drive, Wilsons Creek Road, Left Bank Road, and Huonbrook Road.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Emergency Management Jenny McAllister said the funding would help reconnect communities and rebuild for the future.<\/p>\n
“We’re restoring roads across Byron Shire to help families stay connected and help businesses access roads they can rely on,” Ms McAllister said.<\/p>\n
“We’re working with all levels of government to help local communities not only recover but rebuild for the long term.”<\/p>\n
Landslips due for repair include multiple locations on Coolamon Scenic Drive, Left Bank Road, Wilsons Creek Road, Coopers Creek Road, Johnsons Road, The Pocket Road and Huonbrook Road.<\/p>\n
Repairs will also occur on Tristran Parade, Monet Drive and Dry Creek, Main Arm, St Helena, Wanganui, Possum Shoot, Frasers and Goonengerry roads.<\/p>\n
Richmond federal member Justine Elliot said keeping communities connected during and after natural disasters was important.<\/p>\n
