A MOBILE dental van offering free check-ups to students has expanded to the Northern Rivers, bringing vital oral health care to schools in remote areas.<\/p>\n
The Primary School Mobile Dental Program, which began in 2019, has visited 1,000 schools and provided care to nearly 300,000 children across New South Wales.<\/p>\n
The initiative aims to make essential dental services more accessible to families while promoting good oral health habits among students.<\/p>\n
In 2023, the program extended to the Northern Rivers, helping children in the region receive on-site check-ups, cleans, X-rays, preventive treatments, and education on maintaining healthy teeth.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Ryan Park said oral health care was a key component of overall well-being.<\/p>\n
“These mobile dental clinics make it easier for families to receive essential check-ups.<\/p>\n
“Expanding this program to more parts of NSW provides more children with free, school-based dental care, helping families who don’t have easy access to private dental care.”<\/p>\n
The program is delivered by experienced NSW Health staff using fully equipped dental vans and portable dental equipment set up on school grounds.<\/p>\n
It assesses oral health, teaches students about proper dental hygiene, and provides referrals for any necessary follow-up care.<\/p>\n
The mobile clinics visit participating primary schools once a year during the school term.<\/p>\n
While the program primarily serves public schools, all children under 18 can get access to free dental care through NSW Health’s public dental clinics.<\/p>\n
Eligible families may also use the federal Child Dental Benefits Schedule.<\/p>\n
