Photo: CATHY ADAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It stands as a reminder of a bygone era and tells the story of how the railway once connected all our communities,&#8221; Cr Krieg said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the rail trail was a game changer for local tourism, and hinted at developments to come.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The outstanding success of the already opened Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek and Casino to Bentley sections highlights the real economic and social benefits this new section will bring to Lismore,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/12\/DSC_5238_55906.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"902\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ken Smith of Lismore rode on the last train to go through Limore in 2004, and was pleased to see the rail line back in use. Photo: CATHY ADAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got plans in place. We&#8217;ve already identified a site to create a bridge to link the CBD with the rail trail. We want to embrace the river. We want to spend $1 million for our river regeneration along that section. Let&#8217;s make Lismore an iconic place to come and visit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cr Krieg credited the council staff and all of the teams who worked on the project for the quality of the design and skill put into the rail trail.<\/p>\n<p>Page MP Kevin Hogan said the $9.9 million of federal funding for the project was a good investment because the rail trail would become a world-famous tourist landmark.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/12\/DSC_5247_56002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fay Ditton of South Lismore takes Mrs Paws (Ellie) for a walk on the new trail.
