{"id":104155,"date":"2025-01-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=104155"},"modified":"2025-01-08T20:17:53","modified_gmt":"2025-01-08T09:17:53","slug":"learn-how-to-be-a-rock-star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/learn-how-to-be-a-rock-star\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn how to be a rock star"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNG musicians on the Northern Rivers can get a taste of what it&#8217;s like to be a rock star at a series of music camps being run over the summer school holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Owner\/director of Maca Music Camps, Matthew Taylor said the camps are very popular, offering kids a chance to learn the fundamentals of music, as well as have some fun.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Music should be fun for everyone, no experience is necessary,&#8221; Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>The day-long sessions group people according to age and skill level, teaching them two songs to perform together at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor began his career as a primary school teacher, branching into teaching music after achieving a music degree. After a stint teaching at Sydney&#8217;s School of Rock, he moved with wife Sarah to the Northern Rivers.<\/p>\n<p>He teaches music lessons from his base in Tregeagle throughout the year but sees the music camps as an invaluable way to bring together like-minded people.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/IMG_4495_33434.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"558\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students at Matthew Taylor&#8217;s end of year concert in 2024. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s about learning to collaborate with others, working together in a low-pressure environment. It encourages people to talk and get to know each other,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>As well as being encouraged to try different instruments, the students will also learn skills in how to produce a music video.<\/p>\n<p>The day is also broken up with games and physical activities to help students connect.<\/p>\n<p>There are two camps at Rous Public School, on Tuesday, January 14, and Wednesday, January 15. The focus band for these sessions is The Pixies.<\/p>\n<p>Two more camps will be held at Cape Byron Steiner School on Tuesday, January 22, and Wednesday, January 23, focusing on music by Imagine Dragons.<\/p>\n<p>Maca Music Camps is a Creative Kids provider that accepts Active Kids vouchers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNG musicians on the Northern Rivers can get a taste of what it&#8217;s like to be a rock star at a series of music camps being run over the summer school holidays.
