SOULFUL pop artist Odette (aka Georgia Sallybanks) is bringing her Seahorses tour to the region on March 1.<\/p>\n

The charismatic performer is known for her high-energy shows and witty banter. Her headline tours sell out, and she has played major festivals, including Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival, SXSW in Austin, US and The Great Escape, UK.<\/p>\n

Her 2018 debut album, To a Stranger, debuted at #1 on the Apple Music Charts, landing her two ARIA nominations.<\/p>\n

Her follow-up album Herald in 2021 drew heavily on growth and mental health themes, building on the rhythmic poetry and piano style of her debut and adding more experimental production and electronic elements.<\/p>\n

The independent artist told this masthead she was burning to tour.<\/p>\n

“I have a fire inside of me that’s getting bigger and bigger,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I’m hungry to show the world music I am so incredibly proud of.”<\/p>\n

Playing piano and writing songs as a young girl, she gravitated towards artists like Joanna Newsom, Kate Bush and Bj\u00f6rk in her teenage years.<\/p>\n

Her first break as a young artist came through national youth radio station Triple J’s Unearthed platform. In 2017, Watch Me Read You’s soulful vocals and unique spoken word verses struck a dominant chord with listeners.<\/p>\n

Triple J has supported the artist from the beginning. Both albums were selected as feature albums; she appeared as a panellist on ABC’s Spicks and Specks and recorded two Like a Version segments – AC\/DC’s Thunderstruck and Magnolia by Gang of Youths.<\/p>\n

“The station has been really kind to me and my career. They were supportive and played me consistently,” Odette said.<\/p>\n

“They also debuted my new songs, Reverence, and Seahorses, which is the title of my upcoming tour.<\/p>\n

“I’m really excited to tour it as this song is one of my favourite releases.”<\/p>\n

It has been some years since Odette toured the region, and she is thrilled to return.<\/p>\n

“I’m playing with my bodacious band – they’re awesome, and my shows are insanely fun, but they also have down moments where I can express my more vulnerable, cathartic songwriting – just me and my keyboard.”<\/p>\n
