TWEED Shire Council has begun repairs on the embankment below Church Street, Murwillumbah, damaged during the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
Contractors PCA Ground Engineering will work to ensure the long-term stability of the embankment, which will prevent further deterioration and protect the street and its residences.<\/p>\n
The challenging location has a near vertical slope and limited access. Using steep slope construction techniques, the complex project involves installing 650 12-metre soil nails covering a total length of 7,800 lineal metres with shotcrete.<\/p>\n
The soil nails and shotcrete will be sequentially built in five rows, with the area above and next to the site to be revegetated.<\/p>\n
Church Street will be closed during project work hours except for local traffic. Traffic control measures will be in place on Queen Street for the duration of the project.<\/p>\n
The work will cause temporary disruptions, noise, dust and minor adjustments to bin collection services.<\/p>\n
The Council and the construction contractor have said they aim to reduce inconvenience to nearby residents and businesses as much as possible.<\/p>\n
Work hours are Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 5 pm, with some Saturday work between 8 am and 2 pm, and will take nine months to complete.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
