{"id":105373,"date":"2025-03-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-06T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=105373"},"modified":"2025-03-05T23:03:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T12:03:33","slug":"surfing-the-waves-of-giving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/living\/surfing-the-waves-of-giving\/","title":{"rendered":"Surfing the waves of giving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HE&#8217;S the co-founder of one of Byron Bay&#8217;s most famous surf labels, so it&#8217;s fitting that the first fundraising event for local charity Liberation Larder since John Morgan became president is a screening of a classic surfing film.<\/p>\n<p>The special event screening of the rescanned and remastered The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun, which was first released in 1970, will be held at Byron Theatre on Friday March 14.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_108725\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108725\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-108725\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/03\/LennoxHeadsurfersina_06305_tn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"420\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108725\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lennox Head surfers in a scene from The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Morgan had only been in the role a short time when old friend, California-born surfboard shaper and filmmaker George Greenborough, offered use of his famous movie.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t choose it, it chose us,&#8221; Morgan said. &#8220;It was quite fitting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Morgan, who founded Maddog with surfboard shaper Mark Plater, was still a Brisbane schoolboy when the film was released.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_108726\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108726\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-108726\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/03\/AposterforsurfmovieT_07411_tn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"454\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108726\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A poster for surf movie The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s pretty cool because it&#8217;s got a lot of surfing footage from around here and Lennox Head, as well as California,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s got stuff about the beginnings of the shortboard revolution which is of particular interest to a lot of surfers, especially around here, because of the nostalgia people are into now.
