{"id":105773,"date":"2025-03-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=105773"},"modified":"2025-03-19T21:45:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T10:45:15","slug":"equikids-expands-to-the-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/equikids-expands-to-the-farm\/","title":{"rendered":"Equikids expands to The Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A POPULAR horse-riding school for children has expanded to a new location with Equikids providing pony rides and tours at The Farm in Byron Bay.<\/p>\n<p>The Farm brings in a number of visitors on weekends and includes a number of activities and educational programs on regenerative farming.<\/p>\n<p>Equikids launched from humble beginnings in a grass field at Mullumbimby two years ago and more recently its home base at Lennox Head just eight months ago.<\/p>\n<p>The group now runs more classes and programs with a sand arena, barn, showjumping paddocks and round yard.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Megan Thomson had a vision to create affordable horse-riding experiences that is accessible to the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were looking into options of expansion when The Farm contacted us and it felt like the perfect move,&#8221; Ms Thomson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are still running our current classes at our home base on Ross Lane, but have added an additional herd into The Farm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we&#8217;re operating three days a week offering pony rides, farm tours and after school clubs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are also hoping to expand into beach rides later in the year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thomson is originally from England and was a professional showrider after leaving home at just 13 years old.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/03\/471853386_1792769469_78586.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The popular horse riding school now runs out of Byron Bay as it continues to grow. Photo: SUPPLIED.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She was trained by an Olympic showjumper and rode for some of the best stables on top-quality horses in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Thomson, 31, later met her husband Pete on a holiday in Byron Bay.<\/p>\n<p>After the birth of her daughter Florrie in 2022, she wanted to start a business focused on children.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was so lucky to be brought up around horses and wanted to create an option for children to experience the magic from a young age,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We run programs for children from three years old and now cater for a lot of adults, too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My childhood is full of memories from days at the stables and I love seeing the kids here experience that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We didn&#8217;t have much when we started, the Mullumbimby community were big supporters of us.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To feel at home and accepted on the other side of the world is pretty special.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After school sessions at The Farm have started on Thursdays with pony rides and horseback tours on the weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A POPULAR horse-riding school for children has expanded to a new location with Equikids providing pony rides and tours at The Farm in Byron Bay.
