{"id":105901,"date":"2025-03-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-27T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=105901"},"modified":"2025-03-26T21:01:43","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T10:01:43","slug":"titans-a-chanceto-create-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/sport\/titans-a-chanceto-create-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Titans a chanceto create history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A CHANCE to be crowned the top region in NSW country rugby league is driving the Northern Rivers Titans representative teams at the state finals.<\/p>\n<p>The open men and women&#8217;s teams will contest grand finals along with the under-16 Andrew Johns Cup team this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>It would be the first time the Northern Rivers has double or tripled up with three teams winning titles under the current structure.<\/p>\n<p>The Titans men&#8217;s team were dominant in a 56\u201312 win over the Monaro Colts in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p>They will play the Newcastle Rebels in the final at GIO Stadium in Canberra.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Wayne Forbes said his side has been ruthless in the representative campaign.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve put the foot on the throat early and dominated the arm-wrestle,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would have been disappointed not to make the final with the team we&#8217;ve assembled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The best thing is they&#8217;re all contributing and if we go on to win it, we would have travelled more than 5000 kilometres without a home game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We lost a few blokes when Cyclone Alfred was on, but whoever has been out there has really stepped up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/03\/430289456_9242739097_18503.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Northern Rivers Titans will contest grand finals in junior and senior competition. Photo: CEE BEE&#8217;S PHOTOS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brothers Connor and Caleb Ziebell will lead the way in the forwards while five-eighth Elliott Speed has impressed.<\/p>\n<p>In other games, the women&#8217;s team can create history under coach Chris Binge in its grand final against the Western Rams.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Rivers has not won a women&#8217;s title since the competition started a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Five-eighth Karri Williams and fullback Keniesha Hall were standouts in a 40\u20136 win over the Northern Tigers in the semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>They will be key in the grand final along with experienced halfback Chloe Saddler and front-rower Jappira Torrens.<\/p>\n<p>And the under-16 boys advanced after a hard-fought 20\u201314 win over St George Illawarra Dragons.<\/p>\n<p>Fullback Jaylon Russell, front-rower Nixon O&#8217;Connor, winger Julean Woods and second-rower Max Palmer all scored tries in the win.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Rivers junior side is the most active of the Titans teams, having played five games before the finals.
