{"id":106099,"date":"2025-04-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-06T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=106099"},"modified":"2025-04-02T21:56:17","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T10:56:17","slug":"byron-dementia-awareness-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/byron-dementia-awareness-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Byron dementia awareness event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A COMMUNITY event will host an open conversation to break stigma, share insights, and support the dementia-friendly community in Byron Bay on April 10.<\/p>\n<p>The Byron Community Centre, Byron Seniors Club and Byron Shire Respite Service aim to raise awareness and understanding of people living with the illness.<\/p>\n<p>Event organiser Sabine Muschter said dementia touched so many lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s still a lot of fear and misinformation around it,&#8221; Muschter said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This event is about giving people the knowledge and confidence to navigate a dementia diagnosis, whether for themselves, a loved one or within the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s Talk Dementia brings together leading experts in dementia care and brain health to discuss the realities of dementia, share personal stories and offer guidance to those affected.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers include Dr Rachel Jones, a geriatrician at Ballina Hospital, Kathleen Cator, a clinical psychologist at Byron Bay, and Christine Aggar, an Associate Professor at Southern Cross University&#8217;s Faculty of Health.<\/p>\n<p>Dementia remains the most significant health challenge of our time, impacting more than 400,000 Australians, yet it is widely misunderstood.
