Photo: JOSEPH MAYERS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But Noble has since walked back the announcement, telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iq-mag.net\/2024\/12\/peter-noble-delivers-u-turn-on-bluesfest-future\/\">UK music industry magazine IQ<\/a> it was largely a ploy to attract the attention of the NSW government, which he said declined to invest in Bluesfest during a challenging time for the economy while supporting \u201cimported\u201d events like South by Southwest.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/04\/JohnButleratBluesfes_79692.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Butler performing at Bluesfest. Photo: LYN McCARTHY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But he said he would always find a way for Bluesfest to go forward and he was already booking the 2026 edition.<\/p>\n<p>Bluesfest began as the East Coast International Blues &amp; Roots Music Festival in 1990, with 6,000 attendees.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/04\/CatEmpireperforminga_81286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Cat Empire performing at Bluesfest. Photo: LYN McCARTHY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The biggest crowd recorded was in 2011, when legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan helped sell 115,000 tickets. The one-off event also ran for six days.<\/p>\n<p>Last year less than 70,000 tickets were sold as the cost-of-living crisis ate into Australians\u2019 disposable incomes, with this year\u2019s event cut from five to four days.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/04\/KaseyChambersatBlues_83665.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kasey Chambers at Bluesfest. Photo: LYN McCARTHY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like many other festivals and events worldwide, Bluesfest had been struggling since the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 2020 and 2021 festivals cancelled due to lockdowns.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/04\/XavierRuddatBluesfes_86529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"569\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Xavier Rudd at Bluesfest.
