CANCER patients and carers in the Northern Rivers received free legal and financial support at a two-day clinic in Lismore this week.<\/p>\n
The clinic, hosted by Cancer Council NSW at the Lismore Workers Club, offered help preparing wills, enduring power of attorney and guardian documents, as well as budgeting and financial advice.<\/p>\n
The event was delivered in partnership with HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Viridian Financial Group and local law firm Parker & Kissane, supported by a grant from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation.<\/p>\n
Alongside one-on-one consultations, group sessions were held to cover common legal and financial concerns, living well with cancer, and the services available through Cancer Council NSW.<\/p>\n
Cancer Council’s 13 11 20 support line professionals were also on hand to provide information, emotional support and referrals to other services.<\/p>\n
Cancer Council NSW manager of support services, Sophie Anderson, said demand for support in the Northern Rivers was high.<\/p>\n
“The engagement and enthusiasm from participants has underscored the importance of accessible,<\/p>\n
in-person support for those affected by cancer,” she said.<\/p>\n
“This initiative has not only provided immediate relief but has also equipped individuals with the necessary knowledge and resources to navigate their financial and legal challenges.”<\/p>\n
Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation spokesperson Jackie Connors said the Lismore sessions were well attended.<\/p>\n
“Our sessions were busy with people wanting to learn more about how to best take care of themselves and their loved ones \u2013 and I think that highlights just how important this project is for the Lismore community,” she said.<\/p>\n
A second clinic is planned for Coffs Harbour later this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
