TWEED Shire Council is calling for community feedback on a new plan to better manage the popular Hastings Point Headland.<\/p>\n

The draft management plan is now on public exhibition and was developed in response to rising visitor numbers and growing pressure on the fragile coastal site.<\/p>\n

It aims to protect the headland’s natural beauty, ecosystem and cultural heritage, while improving safety and access for both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n

Council’s team leader coast and waterways Tom Alletson said the plan reflects the views of more than 300 locals.<\/p>\n

“Hastings Point Headland is well-loved by the community and visitors, but even the most respectful visitors can have an impact,” Alletson said.<\/p>\n

“Without thoughtful management, increased visitation could damage the values that make this area so unique.”<\/p>\n

The draft outlines key issues such as traffic congestion and pedestrian safety and proposes actions to improve the area.<\/p>\n

It covers the Hastings Point headland and carpark, Fig Tree Park, Cudgera Creek Park, the foreshore, and land from Peninsula Street to the creek mouth.<\/p>\n

The plan also draws on feedback from residents, environmental groups and visitors.<\/p>\n

Submissions close on June 27.<\/p>\n
