NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley has explained his shock omission on in form Wests Tigers prop Terrell May – and it’s got nothing to do with his “switch allegiance” slur on streaming site Twitch.<\/p>\n
May was not picked with Max King getting the nod and while some have speculated that the decision was down to the former’s behaviour, Daley said the contrary.<\/p>\n
“I think the others are playing better than Terrell May \u2013 all the things I’m looking for as a player,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Max King is playing outstanding. Terrell’s playing great but he needs to keep knocking on the door, his time will come at some stage.<\/p>\n
“I’m sure his time will come at some stage. There’s a lot of players that were unlucky.<\/p>\n
“Jarome’s another one that was unlucky, James Tedesco (too). That’s the great position we’re in\u2026 the fact there’s a number of players that could be considered in the squad that didn’t make it.”<\/p>\n
SEN’s Andrew Voss said it was no surprise that May was not included.<\/p>\n
Last week, amid speculation over who would miss out on the final team for Game I, May was asked about his chances while playing Call of Duty and live streaming.<\/p>\n
“You know that Blues jersey I bought you? Chuck it in the bin,” he said before being asked if the team was confirmed amid media reports it had been and that he was out in the cold.<\/p>\n
“Nah, it’s not the media. How do you think it got leaked? You think they’re not just playing Chinese whispers?” May added.<\/p>\n
He then delivered a hammer blow by saying: “Might have to switch my allegiance”.<\/p>\n
It’s left a bitter taste in people’s mouths, most notably former Blues coach Brad Fittler’s who on Sunday labelled May’s behaviour as “pathetic”.<\/p>\n
Voss echoed Fittler’s sentiments on SEN Breakfast.<\/p>\n
“Boy oh boy I don’t think he’s done himself a whole lot of favours,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The Twitch video, he’s live streaming playing a game and it (Origin selection) came into the conversation<\/p>\n
“How do they not know, anything out there on social media is possible to go everywhere. He thinks he’s just Having a conversation with one person \u2013 it’s being recorded.<\/p>\n
“If I’m a coach I don’t know whether that’s the player I want, am I being a dinosaur?<\/p>\n
“Fittler yesterday had his say and I think he spoke for a lot of people that respect the game when he said people would kill to be in the squad.<\/p>\n
“I don’t care if he’s talking to a random, just say ‘I’m disappointed to miss out, I’m gonna try harder.’<\/p>\n
“Something about that grates me.<\/p>\n
“I’m still in a mystery about why he was moved on for the Roosters. They developed him.”<\/p>\n
Voss’s co-host Greg Alexander suggested perhaps it was time to “join the dots” between May leaving the Rooster and his non-selection for Origin.<\/p>\n
