{"id":107224,"date":"2025-05-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=107224"},"modified":"2025-05-21T19:59:21","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T09:59:21","slug":"vintage-bikes-raise-4300-for-mens-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/vintage-bikes-raise-4300-for-mens-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Vintage bikes raise $4300 for men&#8217;s health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIFTY riders in suits and vintage helmets took to the streets of Ballina, Byron Bay, Clunes and Lismore on Sunday as part of a global motorcycle event supporting prostate cancer research and men&#8217;s mental health.<\/p>\n<p>Known as the Distinguished Gentleman&#8217;s Ride, the event raised more than $4300 locally and saw riders don 1930s- and &#8217;40s-inspired outfits to turn heads and start conversations.<\/p>\n<p>For Ballina rider Doug Townsend, the cause is deeply personal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My father passed away at 53 with prostate cancer so it is an issue I can relate to,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said taking part in the event was a meaningful way to remember loved ones while contributing to a broader cause.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Always great riding in a group with a particular theme for a great cause.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the occasional rain, he said the event maintained its lighthearted and community-driven energy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/05\/20250518_093604_34911.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Riders gather for the Ballina leg of the Distinguished Gentleman&#8217;s Ride, which raised funds for prostate cancer research and men&#8217;s mental health.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The atmosphere was definitely fun with a bit of exhibitionism,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had a variety of bikes that created a bit of a spectacle through Ballina, Byron Bay, Clunes and Lismore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Distinguished Gentleman&#8217;s Ride began in Sydney more than a decade ago and has grown into an international movement.
