KEVIN Hogan has retained the trade and tourism portfolio in the Coalition’s new shadow cabinet, vowing to back regional exports and challenge new US tariffs.<\/p>\n
The federal member for Page and deputy leader of the Nationals returned as shadow minister for trade, investment and tourism following last week’s reshuffle.<\/p>\n
He said trade and tourism were vital to Australia’s economic future, particularly for regional communities.<\/p>\n
“Australia exported $650 billion worth of goods and services last year, with two-thirds of this coming from the regions.”<\/p>\n
He said he would continue to advocate for growing export opportunities and ensuring Australia remains competitive on the world stage, “backing our industries, and pushing for smart, future-focused policies.”<\/p>\n
He urged the Prime Minister to raise the issue of proposed US tariffs on steel and aluminium directly with the US president at the upcoming G7 summit.<\/p>\n
“We expect the United States to honour its obligations under the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement, just as Australia has always done,” he said.<\/p>\n
