SEN’s Corey Parker believes Brisbane Broncos NRL coach Michael Maguire is under no danger to lose his job despite a string of poor losses.<\/p>\n
The Broncos slumped to their sixth loss in their past seven matches with the most recent defeat being a 34-6 against the equally-scrutinised Manly Sea Eagles.<\/p>\n
Maguire is 13 weeks into a three-year contract and Parker believes he needs more time to fix the structural issues that have plagued the Broncos over the past 18 months.<\/p>\n
“He’s only 13 rounds in,” Parked said on SENQ Breakfast. “It’s a three-year deal and do I see him lasting? Yes I do.<\/p>\n
“The pressure is certainly not going to go away and that’s part and parcel of being the head coach of the Broncos.<\/p>\n
“We’ve seen how much pressure a Broncos coach can go under.<\/p>\n
“He will get through the year absolutely.”<\/p>\n
Maguire has faced criticism over his coaching practices and harder-nosed stance with some labelling it as outdated and unfair on the playing group.<\/p>\n
Parker, who played his entire 347-game career at the Broncos, refuses to buy the narrative that Maguire is too tough on his playing group and put the onus on the players to quit using it as an excuse.<\/p>\n
“The whole ‘training too hard’ (angle) is just ridiculous,” Parked added.<\/p>\n
“For anyone who comes out and says that, go and speak to the Penrith Panthers and the Melbourne Storm teams for the past few decades.<\/p>\n
“If it was easy, everyone would be (winning Premierships). It’s just ridiculous.<\/p>\n
“The fact we continually hear it, it’s just code for ‘it’s too hard out there.’<\/p>\n
“(If you truly believe that), put your name to it.”<\/p>\n
