THE long established Tweed Heads Croquet Club is undergoing a major makeover and is in the process of building a new, inclusive, and flood-resilient facility.<\/p>\n
The building suffered significant internal and external damage in the 2022 floods, and demolition of the old clubhouse began last week.<\/p>\n
The design footprint of the existing clubhouse will remain, but it will feature high-quality, flood-resistant materials and design elements to minimise the impact of future weather events.<\/p>\n
The new facility will incorporate an updated kitchen, toilets and showers, a first aid room, storerooms, and a covered veranda.<\/p>\n
A new footpath will connect Recreation Street to Steep Street, and damaged grassed areas will be renewed with fresh turf.<\/p>\n
The design will also include ramps leading into the club and to the croquet courts, as well as accessible amenities, including accessible toilet facilities.<\/p>\n
The $612,480 project is part of the Council’s Community Assets Program and is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.<\/p>\n
The transformed clubhouse aims to provide a safe, inclusive environment for croquet matches, social gatherings, and member interactions, continuing the legacy of the club \u2013 a storied cornerstone of the community for nearly 100 years.<\/p>\n
Work is expected to be completed by late November, weather permitting.<\/p>\n
