DISABILITY support group One Community helped break down barriers in Ballina this week, hosting a networking event aimed at connecting locals with service providers across the region.<\/p>\n
The interactive event, Ready-Set-Connect, took place at the Ballina RSL Club and featured about 15 service providers. It offered a chance for parents, teachers and support coordinators to learn about available services and make face-to-face connections.<\/p>\n
One Community head of events Don Elgin said the format allowed each participant five minutes with providers, making the process efficient and focused.<\/p>\n
“Live interaction is the key, and you only know what you see in front of you,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Once we start these conversations in person, they can leave knowing what they need to do next.<\/p>\n
“It’s also a gamechanger for support providers who have been trying to reach out to people.”<\/p>\n
The event also aimed to keep locals informed about current services in the region. One Community has held several events in the Northern Rivers over the years, with staff on hand to assist attendees.<\/p>\n
The group also works in the mental health space and supports young people transitioning from high school into the workforce.<\/p>\n
“We go where there is a need, and these events are only getting stronger,” Mr Elgin said.<\/p>\n
“I asked all our attendees if they had been to one of our events previously and a lot of them haven’t.<\/p>\n
“It’s great that we’re reaching new people and that’s what it’s really all about.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
