JOURNALIST and author Jess Hill will speak in Lismore on June 26 as part of an evening exploring gender-based violence and cultural change.<\/p>\n

The Star Court Theatre event will feature conversation and performance, with Hill sharing insights from more than 15 years of work on domestic abuse and coercive control.<\/p>\n

She has worked with ABC Radio, served as a Middle East correspondent for The Global Mail,<\/em> and was an investigative journalist with Background Briefing<\/em>. Her reporting has earned two Walkley awards, three Our Watch awards, and an Amnesty International award.<\/p>\n

Hill’s 2019 book See What You Made Me Do<\/em> won the Stella Prize and was later adapted into a three-part SBS documentary \u2014 the network’s highest-rating factual program. The book has been translated into five languages and remains one of the most highly rated Australian titles on Goodreads.<\/p>\n

Her more recent work includes the podcast The Trap<\/em> and the Quarterly Essay’s The Reckoning<\/em>, which examined how #MeToo changed Australia.<\/p>\n

“Political spin has no power against the rage unleashed by #MeToo,” Hill said.<\/p>\n

“At its heart, this is an accountability movement.<\/p>\n

“The cultural revolution of #MeToo is not just about sexual violence; it is taking aim at patriarchy’s most sacred compact: the keeping of men’s secrets.”<\/p>\n
