{"id":107682,"date":"2025-06-12T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=107682"},"modified":"2025-06-11T21:48:59","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T11:48:59","slug":"new-date-for-environment-day-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/new-date-for-environment-day-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"New date for Environment Day festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ORGANISERS have rescheduled the World Environment Day festival in Murwillumbah to Sunday, July 13.<\/p>\n<p>The June event was postponed due to unprecedented rainfall, rendering the Knox Park site unsuitable and will now take place at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>The Caldera Environment Centre and Tweed Landcare are hosting the event bringing together experts, educators, and the community for a day of live music, speakers, and collective action to promote practical solutions to conservation challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Tweed Landcare community officer Isabelle Oude-Egberink said the event was crucial in the current climate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Raising global awareness of environmental issues of our time is important to educating the public and promoting collective action towards a larger global movement for change,&#8221; Oude-Egberink said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are a part of nature, and nature is a part of us.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This festival brings people together on World Environment Day to spark the conversations and connections vital for real change in our region.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Key speakers include Professor Brendan Mackey of Griffith University, who will present on the Northern Rivers Adapts project \u2013 a collaborative research initiative working with the Jagun Alliance.<\/p>\n<p>Dr John Grant of Southern Cross University will explore why deeper soil connections are vital for food security and sustainable farming practices, and Andrew Turbill (aka The Bird Guy) will demonstrate how bird language deepens our connection to country and the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 information stalls, live performances from Birren Slabb, The Seeding Band, and Hoopla Circus, food trucks and kids&#8217; activities complete the program.<\/p>\n<p>The free festival runs from 10 am to 3.30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>For information, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/calderaenvironmentcentre.org\/world-environment-day-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calderaenvironmentcentre.org\/world-environment-day-2025<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ORGANISERS have rescheduled the World Environment Day festival in Murwillumbah to Sunday, July 13.
