THE Parliament of NSW has opened the 2025 Parli-Flicks Short Film Award and is inviting young creatives to enter the annual competition about democracy.<\/p>\n

Aimed at students from Years 5 to 12, filmmakers can create a one-minute film exploring Australia’s Westminster system and the role of parliament around the 2025 theme of ‘What do I value about democracy?’.<\/p>\n

Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said it was an exciting opportunity for local students.<\/p>\n

“We have a lot of creative talent in our region, and I’m sure our young students have something to say about their role as young citizens today living in a democracy,” Saffin said.<\/p>\n

“There is so much to love about our democratic system, from our ability to take part in fair elections to having a say when laws and important decisions are being made.”<\/p>\n

Films will be judged across five categories: Regional, Metropolitan, Primary (Years 5\u20136), Junior Secondary (Years 7\u20139), and Best Senior Secondary (Years 10\u201312).<\/p>\n

All finalists will be invited to an awards night at NSW Parliament House, and the winning entry will be awarded the prestigious Parli-Flicks 2025 trophy along with a $500 prize. Shortlisted filmmakers will receive $100 and a medal.<\/p>\n

Films can be in live-action, animation, drama, comedy, documentary style, or feature a direct-to-camera approach.<\/p>\n

“I encourage local schools and students to get involved and have fun while exploring what democracy means to them,” Saffin said.<\/p>\n
