AFTER starting the season winless after the first four rounds, the Dolphins’ stunning mid-season revitalisation in the NRL has seen them set a new club record for most points in a game three weeks in a row.<\/p>\n
Much has been said about the curse that strikes a club when Wayne Bennett leaves, but new coach Kristian Woolf is being praised for his side’s defy the trend,<\/p>\n
with The Dolphins now sixth on the ladder with seven wins in their last ten matches.<\/p>\n
Woolf was highly rated as The Dolphins’ inaugural assistant coach, having won three consecutive premierships with St Helens in the Super League.<\/p>\n
Their electric last three weeks has seen the NRL’s newest club score 44, 56, and 58 points respectively to possess the second best for-and-against in the competition.<\/p>\n
Winger Jack Bostock scored four tries against the Cowboys during Round 15 to set a new club record for most tries in a game and should have had a fifth in the final seconds of the match.<\/p>\n
Speaking on NRL Crunch Time, former NRL player Justin Horo praised the efforts of new coach Kristian Woolf in getting the club to where they are now.<\/p>\n
“I always take the mickey about bad (press conferences) and good pressers, I was so impressed with Kristian Woolf,” Horo said.<\/p>\n
“He was getting limited time, even when he was getting losses because he’s a new coach, he doesn’t carry on a whole heap.<\/p>\n
“There’s not much written about him up there at the Dolphins, but the way he handled the presses in the early part of the year was really impressive to me, and now you’re seeing the fruits of that.<\/p>\n
“He very rarely gets baited into talking about himself during this when everyone keeps referring to Wayne and him and he’s\u2026 praising the players and being accountable for what he could have done better and what he’s doing better at the club.”<\/p>\n
SEN 1170 Afternoons host Jimmy Smith agreed with Horo on the influence of Woolf on The Dolphins’ playing group.<\/p>\n
“He’s highly impressive, Kristian Woolf,” Smith commented.<\/p>\n
“To see him down there on the sideline, shaking hands\u2026 treating those players like men, talking to them\u2026as if they were peers.<\/p>\n
“The more we hear and see of Kristian Woolf, the more his stocks rise.”<\/p>\n
