COUNCIL has started upgrading the entrance to the Murwillumbah Civic Centre to improve access to the library, auditorium and customer service centre.<\/p>\n

The entrance sustained damage during the 2022 floods, which was made worse by later weather events.<\/p>\n

Council says the upgrade will make the car park more resilient to future floods and ensure<\/p>\n

access stays reliable and convenient.<\/p>\n

Works include new durable asphalt surfacing, drainage improvements, accessible parking spaces, connecting footpaths for easier access to facilities, and improved entry and exit points onto Tumbulgum Road.<\/p>\n

In a statement, council said the project focuses on essential infrastructure, with more improvements to come.<\/p>\n

“We’re laying the groundwork for exciting future additions \u2014 think caf\u00e9-style seating, garden beds, trees and places to sit and connect,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

During construction, the vehicle access ramp, access road, and short-term parking at the front of the Civic Centre will be closed, and pedestrian access will be redirected to temporary paths.<\/p>\n

The accessible ramp will be closed for a short period and replaced with a pedestrian detour.<\/p>\n

Access to the TRAC centre and multistorey car park will stay open throughout the works.<\/p>\n

The Australian and NSW Governments jointly funded the $181,180 repairs.<\/p>\n

Work on the upgrades has begun and is due to be completed by the end of July.<\/p>\n
