{"id":108060,"date":"2025-06-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108060"},"modified":"2025-06-27T16:26:26","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T06:26:26","slug":"regional-winners-in-nsw-training-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/regional-winners-in-nsw-training-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Regional winners in NSW Training Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIVE local community members have been recognised for excellence in vocational education and training at last week&#8217;s 2025 North and Mid North Coast Regional Training Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The awards, now in their 70th year, celebrate local VET learners and teachers who have made outstanding contributions to their workplaces and industries.<\/p>\n<p>Apprentice of the Year, Geneva-based mature-age student Jake Barlow, said his apprenticeship as a powerline worker had provided the hands-on experience he craved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has shaped me both personally and professionally, equipping me with valuable skills and a sense of purpose,&#8221; Barlow said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113140\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-113140\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-113140\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/06\/JakeBarlow_81622.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-113140\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jake Barlow from Geneva won Apprentice of the Year. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the most rewarding aspects of my apprenticeship has been working in disaster-affected areas to restore power to communities. It was a challenging experience, involving hazardous electrical scenarios and difficult hygiene conditions, but it was incredibly fulfilling to help the community in such a meaningful way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kingscliff resident Nicole Shedden won Trainee of the Year and said working in disability care was incredibly rewarding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;VET was the right training pathway for me because it offers practical, hands-on learning that directly aligns with the type of work I want to do,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This course has had a significant impact on both my professional and personal growth.
