{"id":108115,"date":"2025-07-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108115"},"modified":"2025-06-25T22:41:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T12:41:55","slug":"budd-park-upgrade-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/budd-park-upgrade-complete\/","title":{"rendered":"Budd Park upgrade complete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE refurbishment of Budd Park in Murwillumbah is now<\/p>\n<p>complete, representing a substantial step forward in the town&#8217;s rebuilding efforts after two major floods.<\/p>\n<p>The new flood-resilient riverside space aims to blend recreation, relaxation, and resilience, fostering outdoor activities, social connections, and an appreciation of natural beauty.<\/p>\n<p>Tweed Shire Council mayor Chris Cherry said the project was an essential step in the journey to recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The revitalisation of this park, as you enter the township, is a symbol of the community&#8217;s resilience,&#8221; Cr Cherry said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a place where we can come together, enjoy the outdoors and celebrate our shared spirit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The decision to remove the Rainforest Centre building prioritised safety and flood resilience for the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We now invite the community to come down and enjoy this beautiful park.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The area once occupied by the World Heritage Rainforest Centre building is now parkland with increased public access to open space.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/buddpark_94481.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"430\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Budd Park refurbishment includes additional riverside green space for all to enjoy. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said the Community Assets Program\u202fwas a firm commitment to ensuring disaster-impacted communities had what they needed to rebuild and thrive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By assisting to restore Budd Park, the Australian and NSW Governments are ensuring infrastructure in Murwillumbah is more resilient and better equipped to withstand the increasingly frequent and intense weather events we are seeing across the region,&#8221; Moriarty said.<\/p>\n<p>Flood mitigation and resilience features include the use of flood-resilient materials, drainage improvements to manage water flow and reduce erosion, anchored structures, and quick-recovery designs with accessible routes for clean-up and repairs.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the reclaimed green space, other repairs included toilet upgrades, accessible parking, shelters, barbecues, picnic tables, seating, tree planting, pathways, and bike racks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Together with Tweed Shire Council, we are not just rebuilding a park \u2013 we are supporting a community in reclaiming and reimagining a much-loved public space,&#8221; Moriarty said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE refurbishment of Budd Park in Murwillumbah is now complete, representing a substantial step forward in the town&#8217;s rebuilding efforts after two major floods.
