{"id":108261,"date":"2025-07-05T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108261"},"modified":"2025-07-02T21:12:38","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T11:12:38","slug":"junior-baseballers-set-to-shine-on-home-soil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/sport\/junior-baseballers-set-to-shine-on-home-soil\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior baseballers set to shine on home soil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FAR North Coast will field teams across four divisions in its annual Timberjacks baseball carnival, with the tournament recognised as one of the sports longest-running regional competitions in the country.<\/p>\n<p>It will be held at the Albert Park Baseball complex, Lismore from July 11-13.<\/p>\n<p>Teams from the Far North Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast will contest the tournament across the under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-20 age groups.<\/p>\n<p>The focus is on participation and another pathway for Far North Coast juniors to play in a major tournament at home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is one of the few facilities in Australia that has four diamonds and it&#8217;s an ideal place for tournaments,&#8221; an FNC Baseball spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The junior tournaments are a major financial boost, and the association has a great reputation in hosting and sending teams away for competition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The carnival started with four Lismore teams in 1980 and has grown to include state and national players.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/IMG_6867-1200x1800_50247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1007\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Far North Coast under-20 team that won the annual Timberjacks carnival last year. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It has even hosted overseas players with visiting teams from Guam and New Caledonia.<\/p>\n<p>The Far North Coast association has worked hard to play a regular competition and field representative teams in carnivals since the floods in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Timberjacks carnival returned last year, after repairing extensive flood damage, and the complex has also hosted national tournaments for juniors and seniors.<\/p>\n<p>The under-20s were the success story of 2024, winning their division with a well-balanced and skilful outfit.<\/p>\n<p>FNC teams have won recent tournaments with the successful women&#8217;s team at the NSW Country titles at Illawarra, while the under-16 boys finished second.<\/p>\n<p>Timberjacks is a free event sanctioned by Baseball NSW with spectators welcome to attend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FAR North Coast will field teams across four divisions in its annual Timberjacks baseball carnival, with the tournament recognised as one of the sports longest-running regional competitions in the country.
