{"id":108308,"date":"2025-07-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108308"},"modified":"2025-07-02T22:53:39","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T12:53:39","slug":"new-july-exhibitions-at-nrcg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/living\/new-july-exhibitions-at-nrcg\/","title":{"rendered":"New July exhibitions at NRCG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOUR new exhibitions have opened at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery, including a powerful First Nations group show to mark NAIDOC Week.<\/p>\n<p>The four emerging Ballina-based Nyangbal artists, Daniel Roberts, Loren Del Signore, Savannah Hickling and Levi Roberts, also celebrate the 2025 theme: The Next Generation \u2013 Strength, Vision and Legacy.<\/p>\n<p>Wagtail at the Picture Palace by Robin Saunders is a whimsical take on a childhood cinema and a Willy Wagtail&#8217;s visit.<\/p>\n<p>The relief printmaking on Japanese Kozo paper was inspired by a serendipitous visit from a noisy bird during a visit by the artist to an Art Deco theatre.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/Mueller_River_Aboutt_34191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"609\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">About the only thing I have to look out for is the cops, 2025 by River Mueller. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the series, Saunders imagines a nostalgic wagtail flight through childhood memories of colourful Art Deco architecture, geometric patterns, bird motifs, golden statues, and Choc Tops. Reflecting on a childhood shaped by absence, River Mueller&#8217;s work is a series of interpretations of a letter received from their father two decades before.<\/p>\n<p>Mueller&#8217;s father disappeared when the artist was nine, and despite efforts to find or contact him, he was never seen again.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/Saunders_Robin_Banan_34198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"894\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Banana Lollies, 2024 by Robin Saunders.
