STAFF from two Ballina clubs will don colourful tutus at work on Thursday, August 22, as part of a new fundraising initiative for local children’s charity Our Kids.<\/p>\n

The Tutus for Our Kids Day is a collaboration between Ballina RSL Club and Cherry Street Sports Club, with male and female staff of all ages encouraged to take part. Tutus of all colours and designs are welcome.<\/p>\n

The fundraiser aims to inspire individuals and businesses across the Northern Rivers to join in by wearing tutus, registering online, and raising money to support children in hospital.<\/p>\n

Funds raised will help purchase lifesaving paediatric equipment for the Children’s Ward and Special Care Nursery at Lismore Base Hospital.<\/p>\n

Cherry Street Sports Club chief executive Tere Sheehan said the work Our Kids does for the region is invaluable.<\/p>\n

“By raising funds for specialised equipment here in our area, it means parents and families can stay closer to home while receiving world class treatment,” Mr Sheehan said.<\/p>\n

“We’re eager to support such an impactful cause.”<\/p>\n

Founded in 2001 by Dr Chris Ingall in Lismore, Our Kids has helped hundreds of children across the region and purchased more than $2.8 million worth of paediatric equipment for local hospitals.<\/p>\n

Fundraising coordinator Rebekka Batista said community support is crucial for the group’s work. She came up with the tutu day concept with support from Claire Tyson at Ballina RSL Club.<\/p>\n

“Ballina RSL and Cherry Street Sports have proudly supported Our Kids since its inception,” club chief executive Guy Diven said.<\/p>\n

“When the idea for a tutu day was proposed, we knew it was something special,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We’re excited to see the wider community join us in this fun and meaningful event.”<\/p>\n
