{"id":108560,"date":"2025-07-18T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108560"},"modified":"2025-07-16T17:56:36","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T07:56:36","slug":"tons-of-fun-at-timberjacks-baseball-carnival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/tons-of-fun-at-timberjacks-baseball-carnival\/","title":{"rendered":"Tons of fun at Timberjacks baseball carnival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LISMORE has received a major economic boost after nearly 400 junior baseballers and their families descended on the city for the annual Far North Coast Timberjacks carnival.<\/p>\n<p>About 34 teams from across New South Wales and south-east Queensland took part in this year&#8217;s event, which showcased Lismore&#8217;s Albert Park baseball complex.<\/p>\n<p>Tournament director Al Connors said the carnival focused on participation and gave Far North Coast juniors a chance to play in a major tournament at home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the best baseball facility in Australia \u2014 there&#8217;s nothing else like it \u2014 and we&#8217;re really lucky to have it in Lismore,&#8221; Mr Connors said. &#8220;People love coming here, and we encourage them to spend money around town at the shops and restaurants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Albert Park is one of the few venues in the country with the capacity to host games across four diamonds, with grandstand seating for spectators.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113986\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-113986\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-113986\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/518189880_1272738841_18041.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"520\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-113986\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brisbane West won the under-14s division at the Timberjacks carnival. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Far North Coast Baseball Association has worked hard to rebuild the local competition and field representative teams after the 2022 floods caused widespread damage to the complex.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We copped significant damage in the floods a few years ago, but we&#8217;re resilient people and we were always going to come back,&#8221; Mr Connors said.<\/p>\n<p>The Timberjacks carnival returned last year and now includes an under-20s division, with the complex also hosting national junior and senior tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>The FNC zone fielded two teams in each division this year, with squads selected to ensure evenly matched games.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the weekend was the Banana Ball event \u2014 a lighthearted, music-filled game played under lights that proved a hit with players and families alike.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted the emphasis to be on participation and fun,&#8221; Mr Connors said. &#8220;It&#8217;s also a tournament where people might coach for the first time or learn how to do the scoring.
