AGAPE Outreach will host its annual Laughing Matters fundraiser at Club Tweed on August 8, featuring comedians Akmal, Ellen Briggs and Mandy Nolan.<\/p>\n

The event, held during National Homelessness Week, helps fund Agape’s work providing meals and support to people struggling across the region.<\/p>\n

Founding director Theresa Mitchell said the rising cost of living had left more locals in need of help.<\/p>\n

“Anyone who’s paying more than a third of their income into housing is potentially living in poverty,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We have so many requests for food \u2013 people on payments, seniors, families with babies in prams, students, workers and job seekers.”<\/p>\n

Mitchell said Agape, which recently had food stolen during a break-in at its cold room, now needs support more than ever.<\/p>\n

She said the charity needs more volunteers, particularly in administration, and urged people to support the fundraiser or connect through its social media.<\/p>\n
