{"id":108791,"date":"2025-07-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108791"},"modified":"2025-07-23T22:14:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T12:14:16","slug":"wear-red-for-campo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/wear-red-for-campo\/","title":{"rendered":"Wear red for Campo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FRIENDS and family Sof Paul &#8216;Campo&#8217; Campton are being encouraged to wear red or their favourite football jersey to his funeral on Thursday July 31, in a heartfelt tribute to the much-loved local and lifelong St George Dragons supporter.<\/p>\n<p>The service will be held at St Kevin&#8217;s Catholic Church in Bangalow at 11.30am, followed by a celebration of life at the Bangalow Bowlo.<\/p>\n<p>His daughter, Marlie Campton, said her father&#8217;s passion for the Dragons ran deep, and she&#8217;s asked those attending to honour his memory by wearing red or sporting the jersey of their favourite team.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114367\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114367\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114367\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/ValePaulCamptonatBan_34436.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114367\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A tribute to Paul Campton at Shultz Oval in Bangalow. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Paul Campton, 64, died earlier this month following a hit-and-run incident on Raftons Rd in Bangalow. He was found with critical injuries around 3.30am outside the Bangalow Community Children&#8217;s Centre. Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, he died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>A long-time supporter of the Bangalow Rebels rugby club, Campton was honoured last Saturday with a minute of clapping before every seniors&#8217; match at Shultz Oval, where he often watched his daughter play. Players also wore black armbands in tribute.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the tragedy, local resident Yvette Gregory has launched a petition urging Byron Shire Council to improve safety infrastructure along Keith St and Raftons Rd, which are commonly used as bypass routes for Lismore Rd.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114369\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114369\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114369\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/PaulCamptonrightwi_39270.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114369\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paul Campton (right) was much-loved by the Bangalow community.
