BYRON residents can learn how to help during natural disasters at three information sessions later this month.<\/p>\n
Byron Shire Council is working with emergency response organisations, local services and community groups to host the events.<\/p>\n
The sessions will cover how people can contribute through spontaneous volunteering, with presentations and information stalls.<\/p>\n
Minister for Recovery Janelle Saffin said the sessions would help locals feel confident about stepping up in times of need.<\/p>\n
“Local communities show incredible resilience and generosity, especially in times of hardship,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The instinct to step up and support one another is a powerful reflection of our shared community spirit.<\/p>\n
“These sessions are about equipping people with the confidence, knowledge and connections they need to make a real difference when lending a hand during a crisis or natural disaster.”<\/p>\n
Byron Shire Council community resilience and recovery coordinator Sarah Boulle said anyone curious about helping should attend.<\/p>\n
“These sessions are a great way to find out how you can get involved, stay connected, and be prepared,” she said.<\/p>\n
The sessions will run at St Martin’s Church Hall in Mullumbimby on July 29, Ocean Shores Public School Hall on July 30 and Marvell Hall in Byron Bay on August 2.<\/p>\n
Local community resilience hub representatives will also speak about disaster preparedness and recovery.<\/p>\n
“Volunteering doesn’t always require a long-term commitment,” Boulle said.<\/p>\n
“But taking action now to find out about how best to lend a hand during a disaster could make a big difference when people are dealing with the next natural disaster.”<\/p>\n
The sessions are supported by Byron Shire Council and have received grant funding from the NSW Government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
