{"id":108988,"date":"2025-08-03T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=108988"},"modified":"2025-07-30T21:15:58","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T11:15:58","slug":"millions-poured-into-upgrades-at-sharpes-beach-precinct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/millions-poured-into-upgrades-at-sharpes-beach-precinct\/","title":{"rendered":"Millions poured into upgrades at Sharpes Beach precinct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Shire Council and the NSW state government have poured in just over $2 million to build a proper car park, toilet and shower facilities at the Sharpes Beach precinct.<\/p>\n<p>Work has started on the jointly funded project and will also include an accessible viewing deck with improved ocean outlook and storage for surf lifesaving equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Sharpes Beach has had no shower or toilet facilities and has been without line marking between spaces in the car park.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These upgrades are about creating a more accessible, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy our stunning coastline,&#8221; mayor Sharon Cadwallader said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By improving facilities at Sharpes Beach, we&#8217;re enhancing access to the Coastal Recreational Path and supporting active lifestyles across our community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The new facilities will also support our dedicated surf lifesavers with better storage and facilities to help them continue their vital work keeping our beaches safe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114689\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114689\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114689\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/08\/SharpesBeachcarparkM_00546_tn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"451\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sharpes Beach car park is set for a major redevelopment as part of a $2 million upgrade. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There will also be improved landscaping and drainage and restoration of native vegetation areas, with all work expected to be finished by October.<\/p>\n<p>The council invited community feedback on the draft design in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the design has been reviewed by councillors and progressed through a Development Application process, which included a further round of public exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The council has now closed the car park. The works will be completed in stages.<\/p>\n<p>During the closure, beachgoers are encouraged to use the alternative car park located on the western side of The Coast Road, accessible via Headlands Drive.<\/p>\n<p>Pedestrian access to Sharpes Beach, the Coastal Recreational Path, and nearby bus stops will remain open throughout the works via the existing footpath network.<\/p>\n<p>Occasional pedestrian detours may be in place around active work zones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Shire Council and the NSW state government have poured in just over $2 million to build a proper car park, toilet and shower facilities at the Sharpes Beach precinct.
